ARTIST STATEMENT
Darlean Morris,
S.C.A.
My art informs my vision and my vision
informs my art.
Many strong, dormant, images remained
alive in my mind but unexpressed until after I retired
from my first career as an art teacher and administrator.
After years of being concerned with linear communication
in education, I began to explore the multi-leveled,
emotionally charged message that my art offers.
Currently, my interests in both light
and metal have launched me into exploring the artistic
opportunities afforded to me by aluminum as the substratum.
My abstract vision is influenced by the environment
around me, not as a backdrop, but as a subject unto
itself. I view nature with an eye on pattern and movement,
light and shade, all in a balance with outer and inner
meaning.
The aluminum substratum is
revealed as an integral, shining part of the design.
Its natural surface quality, when combined with paint,
results in an enhancement of the reflection of light.
When oil or acrylic paint is married with the reflective
quality of aluminum, the result is a unique and powerful
expression of vitality.
